IT'S COLD FRONT

The rains we have had here in Misamis Oriental, Mindanao is caused by a cold front. "Too much of anything is not too good", so they say. The rains have not stopped for over four days now and so I am longing for some sunshine particularly because I am now managing the laundry. Yuk!

For safety reasons, the boondock Christmas party scheduled for yesterday has been postpone until the weather improves. I do not intend to take a chance and risk lives climbing the muddy mountain simply to celebrate, although the excitement and eagerness to distribute gifts is irresistible. I can imagine the look on the faces of my dear neighbors in Barangay Labas Pagsama when the time comes for gift-giving. Likewise, the repair of the little chapel is temporarily on hold. I have been prepared for this event for sometime now and the intensity of my anticipation grows every rainy morning. Come on rain, give in! Even my dogs are melancholy, I can see they miss their exercise. Hope tomorrow brings sunny spirits to everyone for that matter.

"Your honor" will spend his holidays in Manila, while "Teddy Bear" and I have decided to benefit from the tranquility by staying in Mindanao, after all, this is what the Christmas spirit is all about, peace...

Peace of mind? Piece of my mind?

A couple of days ago, I asked "Teddy Bear" and his brother to accompany me to Makro. (Yes, we now have it in CDO). They agreed provided I drive through the traffic. I just knew they would easily pass judgement on my driving, like they usually do to tease the hell out of me, acting like real chauvinists who forever complain and blabber about the apprehensiveness of women drivers. Of course, I took pleasure in disputing their assertion. They claim male drivers are firm and daring while women are shaky, boring and undecided. Ha, better safe than sorry guys.

Well, guess what?

"Teddy Bear" drives my car yesterday and gets bumped by some PCSO van. To top it all, "Teddy Bear" and his daringness disobeyed the law and made a turn in a No-U Turn zone. Can you imagine my red face and teary eyes? Yup, another basis for the "cold front"! Well, why cry over spilled milk... let the dare-devil handle the repair.

Let me touch on something else, the Filipino brand of politics. Yes, the "pinoy" way. As mentioned in a previous entry, it is now clear that Brother Eddie Villanueva is determined to throw in his hat into the political arena as well. I am sure his announcement to run for the presidency will be made soon. I will not be surprised if Bro. Mike Velarde, Bro. Eli Soriano, Bro. Eraņo Manalo and Jaime Sin file their candidacies too. After all, even Jesus Christ did! Someone filed his candidacy at the Comelec and wants to be called that.

Actor-turned politician, Governor Lito Lapid announced he is running under GMA's senatorial slate, while his son, Mark, filed his ndidacy to take over his father's post. I swear!

Surveys of all sorts will be popping out from all corners of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, jangling all the more the already confused mind of the Filipino voter. Somehow, I am convinced there is a connection between the "resting in peace" of a great Filipino who assessed my country "is in the brink of a civil war" if nothing drastic be done to improve our conditions, Secretary Blas Ople, the son of a boat-repairer, who rose to be one of the most senior members of Arroyo's cabinet, who has served for nearly two decades as labour minister under Marcos, and who was a senator under an opposition party 1992 and was Senate president briefly in mid-1999, probably has seen this in his mind's eye - why do great Filipinos leave when we need them most in these times?

From politics to robotics: Surprisingly, the Philippine military caught the man alive, Abu Sayyaf leader Ghalib Andang alias "Robot". There is got to be something behind the fact that they kept him alive. After all the beheading, ransom, and terror. There is something fishy, with lots of scales! (Geez, with all the ransom money made, I just hope he would not file his presidential candidacy too). Aha, talking of money, maybe that's the connection. Lots of money! And lately the amnesty pronouncement of GMA? Erap? Aventajado? Hmmm...sounds like a do or die - GMA for President! Maybe that could be the fish with lots of scales.

Prophesying frightens me. That was simply another piece of my mind.

I am amazed over first-rate young blogger Vicrenzo. For a fifteen year old high school student, I would qualify his work as tops. Great work!

Last Monday, our foreman came down from the boondocks and brought back a produce of my lemon tree - it was the size of a softball. I can't wait to be up in my boondock! Yuletide carols being sang by a choir....

CONTEMPLATE

Easterly waves continue to bring rain over CDO these past few days, enough to cool the atmosphere, eliminate the dust, wet the grass and calm my spirit. Earlier today, I noticed myself doing something I used to as a child - looking up to the skies, watching the clouds gather and theorizing which place was actually experiencing rain. Rain cloud movement always amuses me. Many years of employment deprived me of that amusement. It feels good that today, I no longer have to worry about heavy downpours and storm signals that used to hurry me home from work, beating the floods that would rush in, traffic that intensified to a riotous level or turbulence in the sky that would lead to panic-stricken passengers. The sky was completely gray and unperturbed this afternoon with winds enough to make leaves fall from the trees. How wonderful!

Evidently, it is raining right now. The A/C can take a break tonite...rain serves as a sedative for pooped bodies like mine is. It is music sent from above to relax the mind. Strange however, our place in the boondock is dry but very foggy and cold.

Talking of the boondock, our domestic assistant (who is from up there) had to dash back to her place a couple of days ago, as her two-year old daughter lost two fingers while playing with a machete (what they call a cyclone, shaped like a quarter moon). Don't ask me what she was doing with that cyclone machete!! Practically every adult in that area carries a machete, as most of them are coconut climbers. The adults in her household are obviously culpable. Geez! Where did they leave their brains?

Today, she appears in the pm and informs me that she will be working only til end of this month. Hmmm...nope, if she gotta go, she gotta go - now!

Alas, I am back to being a triple "c" = Chlorox, Cucina, Cancel! And it is a pure "ouch" for my limbs and muscles.

But the "ouch" is not the point I am driving at. It is what I saw today through the eyes of my now "ex" eighteen year-old domestic assistant. You see, it is the attitude and the " lil worlds" that we, Filipinos maintain. When she started three months ago, I saw someone who wanted an opportunity, not only with matters concerning the pesos she may earn, but the opportunity to gain dignity and educate herself with experience to eventually improve her life and that of her daughter and family.

Unfortunately, I was wrong. So now, I wonder...what is it that these people want?

Many belong to her category, that of being carefree, laid-back and unconcerned, a mediocre attitude. In tagalog, it would probably be "sa walang bahala" (to no concern). The few fortunate ones who actually cherish the moment, clutch and grab any other bigger or better opportunity. They see the advantage and therefore make so much more progress in life. The majority, who belong to the poor and less fortunate, miss out on these opportunities for lack of passion, ambition, intuition and self-respect which some call "hope". (Don't tell me it's lack of education or opportunity! Everyone dreams of better things in life, no matter where one comes from.) The annoying part of any story is regret. When they realize their inadequacy, they either point a finger of accusation, or maintain foolish pride, which, as I have observed, is very Filipino. "Huwag mo ako idamay" or "huwag lang ako" (Don't involve me or just not me). We love to blame others for our own shortcomings.

When shall we learn to put things in their proper perspective and take that much needed responsibility? I feel terrible knowing that I tried to impart words of wisdom (whew!) but to no avail.

Right now, she is probably back, cuddling her two year-old daughter...maybe, it is where she is really suppose to be. But I sure hope she wakes up to the reality that the future of this little two year old is in her hands - today.

I truly wonder if she really meant it when she said "Thank you". Now I have my doubts.

On another tone, I guess Brother Eddie got a message from up above. I did not hear any announcement today of his intention to run. Thank the good Spirit!!! In contrast, FPJ, "Da King", continues to be talked about everywhere despite his being an invisible man. I wonder how he'll turn out to be if seated in the Palace with those hungry wolves around him. Will a tagalog version of Hollow Man be in the making?

On the lighter and better side: Through the assistance of a HS classmate, I met a group of new friends in the USA, who call themselves "BASAK", (Bayanihan ang Sasaklolo sa Bayan) who have generously donated some cash and a box containing some used clothing, shoes, toys and school materials for my dear neighbors in the boondocks. I sent out an e-mail soliciting support for a project I want to start and hope to continue as long as I can. "Teddy Bear" and I are hosting a Christmas party where we will distribute these items, and by Saturday, start the repair of their little chapel in time for the "Simbang Gabi" (Dawn Mass). I will be on my toes these coming days but will try to continue posting. Do you feel the chi that Christmas brings? I do!

GUESS WHAT?

Just received an e-mail regarding the decision of Brother Eddie Villanueva of the Jesus is Lord Movement (JIL) to run as president in the coming 2004 elections. His announcement will be made on December 10, Wednesday. What is disturbing is the news that the other religious leaders like Mike Velarde of El Shaddai, the Iglesia ni Kristo, the Jesus Miracle Crusade would also run if indeed Bro. Eddie does announce, to quote his words, "this may be a calling from God".

If this happens, then the Filipino doomsday is not too far away. Not only will it be a battle of voracious politicians but a battle between "spaced-out" cadets. The issue of morality may just be compromised!

On one hand, followers of these religious groups would have most likely voted for FPJ if none of their leaders would have joined the circus, which means, RP may just lose votes. (not Republic of the Philippines, ok, but Ronnie Poe!). This may be good news for Ping, GMA, Roco and Atty. Ely Pamatong.

The Sex Bomb dancers of GMA 7's Eat Bulaga-Spaghetti and the Dancers of ABS-CBN's MTB-Ocho-ocho might as well join the circus to see which of these two groups has a bigger place in the Filipino dance-hearts.

In 1992, when Erap decided to run for the VP, I prophesied that sooner or later, Jaworski, Dolphy, FPJ, Tito Sotto, Ramon Revilla Jr., Rudy Fernandez, Philip Salvador would all be governing my country. Looks like I hit a high percentage. My prediction for the 2010 elections? F4 and Barbie Xu (did I get that right?) will be seated in the senate, after a good six years of tagalog dictionary.

Que barbaridad!! Grggghhhhhh!

JUST NOW

It's been almost a week since my last entry, can say I've been up doing a little of everything, and everything is doing:
laundry, while humming to the tune of ocho-ocho,(thanks to my neighbors AM radio station!)
gardening, plus a little chat here and there with jolly old neighbors,
re-decorating for Christmas as well as lighting all my scented candles,
feeding, walking and offering my dogs some quality time,
driving, took a trip to Gingoog City, dropping by Medina to say hello to my boondock friends,
grocery therapy, (love this one!)
wet market haggling,
entertaining a couple of sales agents at home, (lucky them, caught me in a high!)
taught my one and only Spanish student,
faced two opposing lawyers, stated my conditions, loud and clear,
had at least a total of 4 hours of TV this week,
received and forwarded FPJ text jokes
and lately, spent hours toiling with my blog.
Wish I was a master of the PC, still have to familiarize myself with graphics.

Today is "lil kawabaw's" birthday. My grand-daughter Ianna turns three. Happy birthday da'ling!

I am still pondering whether to go to Manila to be with family and friends for Christmas. Anticipation has become a total temptation. The appetite for all the fattening thick gravy and saucy food that I always enjoy, the thirst for wine and merry-making, the yearning for laughter and gossip, the cheer of gift-giving just grows each minute, but on the other hand, the mere thought of pandemonium in the malls and crowded streets distresses me.

CDO offers no relatives, no merry-making, no traffic, simple soy-vinegar-chili sauce (toyo, suka, sili), no humor and eternal F4/FPJ gossip. Yet, its tranquility appeases me. I see myself torn between chaos and tranquility - everyone needs a little of these sometimes. The decision will soon be rendered.

Ana, thanks for the e-mail!

Well for now, I am enjoying a bite of some Ritter Sport Chocolate, blog around and then look forward to another exciting week.

BACK TO SCHOOL II

Before I forget, Noble is pronounced "no-bleh", no way can this creature be dignified. It's NO-BLEH - a rapid tagalog version of "no vale", as in bale wala (worth no good).

Received a couple of comments today about the suspense to the max "back to school" issue which was promised earlier. But before proceeding, let me say I am in the state of calm and "ganadocity". "Teddy Bear", "Your honor", and "Miss Ewan Ko Mam" are out. Aloneness has become my desire, yet my ever loyal disciples - King, Kiara, Kiran and KT keep me company while slumbering with their ears ever alert.

Another issue I want to mention about is an episode of bandwidth robbery by some no-bleh "bailey" gangstas encountered by a fave read, "Sassy Lawyer". I understood her point, but when I checked out the gangstas website, choke! Two articles I had earlier posted likewise appeared on their site. Instantly, I got a feel of what "Sassy Lawyer" had gone through, she being in a worst situation. Shame on them! Cabrones!

Now it's "back to school, part II".
I met up with the stupid Liceo HS Dean again yesterday to render my homily service for the laxity and sloppiness of the school authorities in handling the disciplinary aspect of the gangsta mauling of "your honor". Since November 14th, nothing, and I mean really nothing has been done. To top it all, never in the two weeks that had passed has anyone from any party ever showed any effort in appeasing anyone of us.

The act of calling "your honor" from class last Friday, to face his 5 assailants, a parent, and two other teachers for an alleged "I apologize" setting without our presence, clearly shows the intent of the school authorities which is that of being dubious, malicious, intimidating, and obviously, under watchful eyes.

I detailed their shortcomings while she continued to be indifferent, a ridiculous alibi for every statement I made. This is her campaign: "Forgive and forget", claiming the boys asked for an apology, so I should learn to forgive and forget. I gave her my famous dagger look, stood up and gave my parting words: "Forgive yes, in time. Forget, no way!" If she thinks I'll drop the case, she must be really stupid and crazy! She will continue to see me even in her dreams. (or is it nightmares?)

They are full of falsehood.

I have been trying to reach the owner of the school for at least 5 days now, yet, they continue to delay by telling me to wait for the legal department's report. I wonder what is taking them so long and why has it reached their legal department? Was I right from the very start that they have been acting like lawyers to these attackers? They BETTER not make that mistake.

All I know is the case of frustrated homicide is now filed against these attackers, and if Liceo de Cagayan won't snap out from their indolence, "see you in court" may just be my new crusade.

MINDANAO

The godmother of Udong Mahusay now claims Mindanao is the new food basket of the Philippines..huh? It was the food basket of Asia once upon a time! Damn! Unfortunately, traditional politics and its corruption, used in every tactical manner, destroyed the most productive regions of the archipelago.

Mindanao is home to vast agricultural lands where large companies embarked in food production for profit, thereby improving lives of the common people. Del Monte in Bukidnon, Dole in Davao, Fiesta Brands (coconut products) in "Misamis Oriental".

But as sure as the sun rises, there too are setbacks. All these companies hold main offices in the NCR, Manila. Take for example, Fiesta Brands, their taxes are paid in Makati where their main office is located. One would wonder why when production takes place in Medina, Misamis Oriental, employees report to work in Medina, salaries automatically debited of withholding taxes...yet, it is Makati City who enjoys the fruits of hard labor - as if the town of Medina is worthy of nothing. And if one sees their municipal hall, one would walk in with fear of it collapsing.

The government has turned land in Luzon into golf courses, resorts, amusement parks. Now the government's attention is focused on Mindanao. I would not be surprised if golf courses or other recreational spots start sprouting around here, as they slowly are. Everytime this government diverts its attention to something, it is bound to fall short of expectation. Yet, they have all admitted Mindanao has been neglected (thanks to the past representatives).

GMA's pronouncement is nothing but a incredible propaganda, as usual. I walk on mud roads in the uplands and always wondered how people actually carry their produce to downtowns for some few pesos. Most road projects are out for kicks. GMA billboards posted on main concrete roads, then, less than a kilometer later, you fall into mud. Most of what she says is a total lie! And some bite!

Additionally, Udong's godmother wants the agriculture secretary to hold office in Mindanao. Why not? He can bring in votes. Employees, Del Monte and the famous Lorenzo family? As former senator, VP to Erap, Jose Pidal's sis-in-law, (come on!) she should have pushed for this long, long time ago - when her eyebrows were yet oh so thick and her credibility high.

As for me, I am not convinced. I am simply tired of her misleading my beloved country.

Today's "back to school" juicy scoop would be posted tomorrow, as usual, my bed is calling...oh lovely temptation!

BACK TO SCHOOL

Tomorrow is another No-Bleh day. Have to drop by the school of "your honor" to meet up again with the craziest Dean I have ever met. She keeps clinging on to the hope that we may simply forgive and forget. I just don't understand why she keeps "lawyering" for these nincumpoops.

Last Friday, she called "your honor" out of class to meet up with five of his attackers, 2 other teachers, and a parent as they asked for pardon. Que coņo! She never bothered to inform us about this despite the call I made to her a day before to assure her we would be available should the school need us. Pure intimidation. What was her intention? So - tomorrow, another homily awaits her!

Watched Raul Roco's "Alyansa ng Pag-Asa" (Convention of Hope). Indded looked inspiring, but this ANC had to cut short the fun I had while watching with my cuppa coffee and luckies. I really want to know his line-up for the senate, and his VP choice.

Will just have to catch up with news tomorrow...am so sleepy, past my bedtime
